LIVES OF SANT SATGURUS
PARAM GURU MAHARAJ SAHAB
Maharaj Sahab Pandit Brahm Shankar Misra Sahab was the third
Revered Leader of the Radhasoami Faith. He was born at 3.20 p.m. on 28th March,
1861 at Banaras. His father Pandit Ram Jashan Misra was a Professor of Sanskrit
in the Queen's College, Banaras. Maharaj Sahab had three brothers and one
sister. Maharaj Sahab was married at an early age to Nayyanji to whom
Huzur Maharaj gave the name Shabd Pyari. Though the family of
Maharaj Sahab was considered very respectable among Brahmans, they were liberal
in outlook. His father had accepted a well-known Muslim Faqir of Patna, Syed
Sahab, as his Guru, unmindful of any criticism. The Guru once told him that his
youngest son would be Faqir of very high status and will have thousands of
disciples and that the Guru of his son would love Him exceedingly. He further
said that His successor also would be a person of high social standing in
Ghazipur and he would make the name and fame of His Guru shine in the world.
PARAM GURU HUZUR SARKAR SAHAB
Param Guru Huzur
Sarkar Sahab, Shri Kamta Prasad Sinha Sahab was the fourth Revered Leader of
the Radhasoami Faith. He was bom after midnight on Tuesday, the 12th December,
1871. Rai Kulwant Prasad Sinha Sahab, the respected father of Sarkar Sahab was
in the Judicial Service of the United Provinces and he retired as a sub-judge.
He had four sons and one daughter. Sarkar Sahab was the youngest son. From His
very childhood Sarkar Sahab gave indications of being a genius, intelligent and
wise. He had prodigious memory. He seldom revised His lessons and could
reproduce them after the first reading. He had a good command over Hindi and
learned Urdu and Persian also. He was an expert at chess and was counted among
the first seven players of chess in India. He was a good rider and a cricket
player. He was also fond of music and possessed refined tastes. Sarkar Sahab
passed the Middle Class Anglo Vernacular Examination in His fourteenth year and
passed Intermediate in 1889. He joined B.A. class simultaneously preparing for
LL.B. Examination. During this period He was keenly interested in debates and
literary contests.

Param Guru Huzur Sahabji
Maharaj (Sir Anand Sarup) was the fith Sant Satguru of the Radhasoami Faith. He
was bom on 6" August 1881 at sunrise in a middle class family of
Ahluwalias of Ambala His father was Shni Lala Kishan Chand Sahab. They were Sahajdhari
Sikhs and devotees of Guru Nanak. The family was well-known for their religious
devotion. Sahabji Maharaj had two elder and two younger brothers and one
sister. Sahabji Maharaj was serene and thoughtful even in childhood and was
fond of solitude. He passed the Matriculation examination in 1887 at Ambala and
the intermediate examination in 1899 from D.A. V. College, Lahore. He got
married to Shrimati Sohan Dei, daughter of Sardar Bishan Singh before passing
Matric. He had two sons and three daughters, another son and daughter passed
away in infancy. Desire for spintual progress began to possess his mind and
keep Him absorbed within Himself When Sahabji Maharaj was studying in the B.A.
class, He and a cousin of His left the college to study the Vedas and went
quietly first to Nasik and then to Bombay. Their relatives and fniends got
worried about their sudden disappearance. Six months later, a letter was
received from Sahabji Maharaj at Bombay giving detailed account of their
pursuits. He was persuaded by His brother to retum and he brought Him back. No
explanation was, however, asked and everybody appreciated His laudable effort.
With His studies already suffered, Sahabji Maharaj joined service in Telegraph
Department with some training After discharging His official duties, He studied
thoroughly the religious books in His spare time.
PARAM GURU HUZUR MEHTAJI MAHARAJ
Mehtaji Maharaj, Gurcham
Das Mehtaji, the sixth Sant Satguru of the Radhasoami Satsang, was bom on the
20 December 1885 at Batala, in a respectable Punjabi family. His father was
Shri Atma Ram Sahab Mehta. Mehtaji Maharaj was extraordinarily intelligent from
childhood. As a boy he applied Himself to studies and obtained high ranks. He
passed His B.A. examination from the Government College, Lahore securing second
position, He passed Civil Engineering course from the Thomason College of Civil
Engineering, Roorkee and was awarded medals for Best Engineering Design,
Surveying and Drawing. He joined the Public Works Department of Punjab and rose
to the position of Chief Engineer and Secretary to the Government before
retirement.
At the age of thirteen, Mehtaji Maharaj accompanied his father to the
Satsang of Huzur Maharaj at Pipal Mandi. Huzur Maharaj enquired about His name
and on being told that it was Harcharan Das, Huzur Maharaj changed it to
Gurcharn Das. In 1905, after a drama had been performed at Allahabad, Maharaj
Sahab, while speaking to the father of Mehtaji Maharaj observed, 'I am very
much pleased with Him.' In the summer of 1914, when Sahabji Maharaj was staying
at Solan, He referred to Mehtaji Maharaj as Manzur-e-Nazar'. In 1920 when
Sahabji Maharaj fell seriously ill at Harda in M.P., he said, "Gurcham Das
shall guide the Satsang after me."
PARAM GURU HUZUR DR. LAL SAHAB
Param Guru Huzur Dr. Lal
Sahab was bom on 31" January, 1907 in Biswan, District Sitapur. His father
Shri Banke Bihari Lal ji was a teacher who had passed MA. and L.T. Examinations
and served in Faizabad, Allahabad and then settled in Lucknow.
Huzur Dr. Lal Sahab obtained his High
School Leaving Certificate in 1922 from Government College, Sitapur and passed
the Intermediate Examination from Christian Intermediate College, Lucknow and
theréafter He studied in Lucknow University for Bachelors and Masters Degree in
Science (Biology) which He received in 1926 and 1928 respectively. Thereafler
He got attached to the Zoology Department of Lucknow University where He served
throughout His career. The Degree of Doctor of Science was conferred in
December 1937 and He was appointed Lecturer in September 1938. Huzur had been a
keen researcher He went to Scotland in March 1946 and within a short penod of a
year and half got His Doctoral Degree in October 1947. On return He joined the
parent department where He became a Reader in June 1948 and Professor in
September 1954 which post He continued to hold till retirement in May 1967. He
was recalled from retirement by the Governor and appointed Vice-Chancellor of
Lucknow University in 1968, where after He finally returned to Dayalbagh in
1971.
